Tiny Clump of Cacti
This clump of tiny cacti is growing near Ghost Ranch in norther New Mexico, USA. The lens cap from our camera gives you and idea of how small they are.
Notice also how there is nothing else growing around the cacti and how unstable the ground is. This is en extremely harsh environment and the plant will only be able to grow when there is sufficient moisture.
You can’t see from the picture, but this is also grazing country. If a cow steps on it I suspect that’s the end of the line. Is it any wonder it takes years and years for this kind of ecosystem to recover from overgrazing?
